Whitney Patterson, Co-Founder

Whitney Patterson graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Degree in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs and has years of experience working as creative marketing professional in almost every aspect of corporate marketing. In 2009, Whitney founded IaM Consulting an image and marketing consulting firm in Dallas, Texas.

In addition to being natural for almost 3 years and co-founding Sporty Afros, Whitney Patterson, works as a Marketing Manager for an international hotel technology company. She is actively involved in her community, serving as a mentor for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America since 2009 and a member of her church’s gospel choir. Whitney recently became a certified running coach with Road Runners Club of America and has competed in 5 triathlons and 2 half marathons.

 

Alexandria Williams, Co-Founder 

Alexandria Williams is a Dallas native and a graduate of the Episcopal School of Dallas class of 2002. She graduated from Texas Tech University with 2 Bachelor degrees in 2007. Alexandria recently has received a certification in Sports Nutrition in 2012.

By day, Alexandria is a Media Relations Manager where she is a go-to resource for travel media worldwide. By night and Blackberry, she is the Co-Founder of Sporty Afros. Alexandria has completed 5 triathlons, 1 half-marathon, 1 duathlon and countless other local races. She has been featured in the USAT Magazine, The Examiner, Dallas South News, Fox Sports News and the CW33. She also has been a featured speaker at various workshops, seminars and expos discussing the essentials of nutrition for hair growth, triathlon training and tips about workout hair care regimens.

Runner’s Revelations: How Running Changed My Walk is a journal Monisha kept while training for her first marathon. After completing the race,  she was encouraged to publish it as a book to empower others to view their body as a temple designed to do awesome things for God’s glory. Since 2011 she  has traveled the country promoting healthy living and serving the Lord!

As a member of the National Black Marathon Association, Monisha met both co-founders at a joint event and immediately begin to contribute her vast knowledge regarding running to the Sporty Afros audience. Since 2011, she has taken her weekly contributions and has been quoted and featured in a variety of major media outlets such as Washington Post, Fox Sports and Dallas Morning News.

As a RRCA Certified Distance Running Coach, Monisha offers a comprehensive beginner’s running classes for those who wish to learn the dynamics of distance running.  She believes there is a runner/walker inside of everyone; however, the choice is up to the person. Clients are given a tailor made running program based on their athletic ability and running goals.  Runner’s Revelation is the second certified running club in the Dallas Metropolex. The club is specifically tailored to assist the southern sector or Dallas. Monisha and Runners Revolution’s brings healthy and fitness to underprivileged areas and sectors to help combat the high obesity rates among minority sector.
