Alex and I are working to take our fitness to the next level.
We are both working to reach our individual fitness goals. Alex wants to lose a few more lbs and I want abs. Although, I have to admit we both looked pretty dang good at our event this past Saturday.
*Three snaps in a circle*
My personal fitness goals have nothing to do with anyone else. My fiance loves the way I look and asked me to not get too skinny as I push my fitness limits lol. Although I’m in good shape, I feel that I could look better. And, to me, that’s all the motivation I need. I’m not saying I will keep it up forever, but I want to achieve my fitness goal. I get bored if I do the same thing over and over whether that’s running, training for a triathlon, P90x or whatever. I have to mix it up.
Alex and I started with an awesome personal trainer recommended to us by our friend who is a six time Iron Man finisher. If she says he’s good, then he’s amazing! We’ve been working out with him for the last 2 weeks. He has us doing HIIT training mixed with weighted movements. The workouts are tough but they go by quick because we’re working so hard! I replicate whatever I did with the trainer one other day a week and the other 5 days of the week (yes, I’m working out 7 days a week). I do low intensity cardio like walking on the treadmill on an incline or getting on the elliptical for an hour. The whole object is to burn fat. I actually have ab muscles but they are just hiding under a layer of fat.
The workout regimen isn’t too difficult. Actually the treadmill workouts are borderline boring. I started using my treadmill time to catch up on my shows on Hulu on my iPad. That seems to pass the time!
As you know, the key to getting in shape is 80% diet, 20% workout. Seriously! So, I’ve been on a super strict diet. I’m limiting my calorie intake and increasing my protein.
A typical day’s diet looks like this:
Egg whites with pico de gallo and a sprinlke of shredded cheese
2 scoops of protein powder mixed with water
2 cans of tuna mixed with spicy mustard and a bit of light mayo over some lettuce
Salmon with brown rice and a glass of red wine (y’all know I wasn’t about to cut out my wine)
That’s my diet day in and day out with NO cheat days. It’s pretty boring and it’s been a HARD adjustment. It’s not like I would eat crappy before but ONLY sticking to the approved foods is difficult. I LOVE food!
I had to change the way I think about food. As opposed to thinking about it as something I get happiness or satisfaction from, I had to start thinking of it strictly as fuel. When my body gets hungry, I fuel it with only what it needs and that’s it.
So far, I’m about a week and a half in and I can see my body changing. Woot! My goal is to be summer time fine in time for my friend’s beach party on June 20. We’ll see what happens.
Are you striving towards a fitness goal? How are you pushing your fitness limits?
