Well hello Sporty Afros family! I’ve been off the grid for a while. Well about 6 weeks to be exact. Yes, I’m still a part of the Sporty Afros camp. Whitney and Alex did not Judy Winslow me! The truth is I’ve spent the last 6 weeks serving as a Kaleo Shepherd at Kids Across America in Golden, Missouri. Yes, Ms. City Girl was tucked away in the Ozarks…in a cabin…with limited technology and reception.
A good wi-fi signal was very hard to come by and making my weekly post was a struggle with a capital S. So by week 2 I gave up and guess what? Being totally removed from civilization and just about everything I knew was just what I needed.
When was the last time you were able to check out from the everyday grind and rest, relax, refresh, and restore? Being that this is a health and wellness themed web site I must stress the importance of taking the time to recharge. A team at Stanford University conducted a case study on the benefits of a sabbatical among their faculty. The results proved everything I experienced; a sabbatical serves as an agent for rejuvenation and renewal, provides time for reflection, and furnishes fresh perspective among many other things.
I had the time of my life just serving people, loving on people, and taking random moments to spend time with the Lord. Here are a few pics from my awesome experience.
In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat , for he grants sleep to those he loves. Psalms 127:2 (NIV)
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6: 30-31 (NIV)
So the question is have you had a sabbatical lately? Research proves they are necessary. The Word proves they are necessary. I’m so glad to be back and I feel ready to take on all my life tasks, including being Sporty Afros’ Employee of The Month! It’s great to be back and in the blogosphere
Love, Peace, and Sweat
