As you know, one of Sporty Afros’ gym bag essentials is tinted moisturizer. Some how in the last few months, I confess, I haven’t been using any at all. Yikes! As I was shopping during Black Friday,I came across on 2 tinted moisturizers to try. Elf Studio Tinted Moisturizer and Neutrogena’s Healthy Skin Glow Sheers Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer (whew that’s long!)
ELF VersesNetrogena Healthy Glow
ELF Studio Tinted Moisturizer
For 2 weeks, I have used the Elf Studio Tinted Moisturizer in almond shade. So far, I like it a lot. I use it every morning after I rinse my face and remove any extra eye crust. :-) I wash my face completely at night, so that’s why I simply rinse it off in the morning. I use it in place of my nightly moisturizer. I also use my trusty Revlon concealer stick under my eyes. (Oh yea- FYI- Elf has cheap brushes. I bought one for $1!!)
The Elf moisturizer contains SPF of 20, Vitamins E, A, C, Cucumber and Aloe. SPF 20 is the lowest I will go on any part of my body except my lips. I apply the tinted moisturizer with a small foundation brush so it doesn’t color my hands. Since using this product, I have been looking effortlessly cute in the gym. Currently, there have been a few new show stoppers at the gym too, so I had to step up my game while working out. HA! I’m just saying!
This photo is right before a work out. Smooth & cute!
By midday, my face becomes slightly shiny so I apply my mineral powder by MAC. The color from the tinted moisturizer does “fade”off but it is a moisturizer, so I don’t expect the color to last 12 hours. If I am going out some where, I will still use the tinted moisturizer but I’ll add some mineral powder for more coverage. I must say I look amazing even if I have had only 4 hours of sleep.
Here is a photo of me using the moisturizer, concealer and MAC mineral makeup for a complete coverage look. *snaps! My brother ( who is 5) wanted to contribute to this post so I am using his photos. Thank you Sweet Pea!
I am an avid Neutrogena user. This is the only brand I can use on my face and body. I figured if Neutrogena has worked wonders on my face and body for years, then the makeup would be just as good.
This product has a higher SPF than Elf’s. Neutrogena’s tinted moisturizer is focused on making your skin healthier. It has a much lighter in texture than Elf’s. I know, the name indicates that it is”sheer” right! Duh!
Applying Neutrogena’s tinted moisturizer on my face felt similar to my regular moisturizer, which is Neutrogena as well. The darkest shade so far in this product is Medium to Tan. If you are darker than me- you are out of luck.
You can see that I have a little bit more coverage on right side. My left side isn’t as smooth and polished around my cheek area.
This photo shows the contrast between Elf (right) and Neutrogena (left).

E.L.F- $3 at Target
Neutrogena - $10 at CVS on sale. But its regularly priced at$13.
E.L.F product is on the left. Neutrogena is on the right. You can see Elf is darker
The Winner is…
ELF!! While, I love Neutrogena and probably will purchase the Healthy Skin Foundation, the shade is a little bit too light ! I really wish the Neutrogena moisturizer was a darker shade arggg!! But prefer the coverage of Elf’s moisturizer. It looks similar to my MAC makeup and blends well when when I use it with the mineral powder. Plus its only $3!
