Say What? Sporty Afros in JET Magazine?

Yes, you read right. Sporty Afros will be featured in the January 27th edition of JET Magazine!

What is the article about?

The article is your 2014 workout hair care solutions guideline! We answer tons of “what to do with your hair when you do ” questions. The article also includes hair styles and product recommendations so you have no excuse to let your hair stop you from working out in the new year. Declare health over hair in 2014!

Last year, I remembered asking/praying to God for a printed magazine article in a national news magazine. I felt like so many women needed help and I wanted to help them on a national scale. A printed article would be a great vehicle to do so!

Honestly, I debated quitting sporty afros. It was /is hard to maintain balance between my full time job, speaking, making products and so much more behind the scenes. I barely had time to work out myself and it was beginning to be too much… *gulp. (It’s the truth.)

I needed some inspiration! I got a big push in the right direction from Nicole Marie Melton. I saw a lot of her ups, downs and triumphs but her FAITH never wavered. She inspired me more to take a look at my own journey and my own faith. I began to recite this scripture daily.

“Consider it all joy when you encounter various trials, knowing that the test of your faith produces endurance. ” James 1:2,3

In the process, I remembered why I started this blog in the first place. I gave my issues over to God. It’s not about the media appearances or product sales, but our message. I want to educate women about health and fitness.

The next day, there was an email in my inbox from a writer at Jet Magazine who followed our site!

Like clockwork, I heard more encouragement from our followers, YES YOU , and I knew I couldn’t quit. I saw you all in Oklahoma City and even saw more comments from you on Instagram. You all inspired me to keep going.

Moral of the story?… BE CAREFUL of what you ASK FOR because you just might get it
