Whitney's Summer Workout Essentials

During the summer, I don’t particularly like working outside because it’s CRAZY hot here in Dallas, but when I do I have a few essentials that I cant live without.

Sporty Afros G+ Moisturizing Spray

Keeping your hair moisturized in the hot sun is a must. I make sure I spray my hair down with lots of G+ and use my homemade shealoe butter after a long workout outside to re-moisturize my hair.

Spray-on sun screen

If you’re working out outside you need to wear sunscreen. Yes, black people need to wear sun screen too. The melanin in your skin doesn’t protect you from getting sunburned as much as you think it does. Black people can get skin cancer too.

Although people with dark skin may not sunburn as easily as those with fair skin, they are still at risk of skin damage from excessive sun exposure. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends routine use of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or greater for all people — regardless of skin color.

I find that they spray on kind is the easiest to apply. Be sure to get the sweat proof/sport kind! There is nothing worse than sunscreen in your eyes.

Spi Belt

I LOVE my Spi belt so much! It’s like a runner’s fanny pack. I usually carry my ID, some cash, my phone and my keys with no problem.

Running Jerseys

If  you’re running outside you want to be as cool as possible, but especially when its 90+ degrees. I like to wear running jerseys because they are loose fitting and made from light, breathable Dri-FIT mesh fabric  that keeps me cool as I pound the pavement.

Breezy Music

Ok, I know this one sounds a little strange, but when its hotter than blazes and my mind is trying to tell my body to keep going I’ll turn on some tunes that remind me of being on a gorgeous breezy beach somewhere looking fabulous.  l really love  classical and Spanish guitar music. There is something about it is so relaxing. Don’t believe me? Close your eyes and hit play….

I BET you’ll picture yourself somewhere AWESOME.

Here are a few more “breezy”  outdoor workout songs.
