Twist Out for Short Natural Hair

Last week, I was in Clearwater, Florida for my friend’s wedding! Yay! I got the chance to hang out on the beach, chill and take a few days off the #30day veg challenge. I was enjoying eating a vegan diet, but it was getting tough! I took a small break for a few days because I really wanted to enjoy my vacation.

I was a bridesmaid in the wedding and so I would be taking a ton of pictures. I wanted to make sure my hair and makeup were on point. I rarely do twist outs but I think the occasion warranted it.  Here is what I did step by step.

Here are the products I used.

First, I shampooed my hair with Isabella’s Own shampoo and deep conditioned with Beautiful Textures Rapid Repair and let it sit for about 15 minutes and rinsed with cool water.

Next, I sprayed my hair with Sporty Afros G+ Moisturizing Spray, used a generous amount of aloe vera gel for added moisture, then I oiled my scalp and sealed my ends with Sporty Afros Ayurvedic oil.

Then,  I took medium sided chunks of hair and did a two strand twist with a Obi Natural’s Curl Enhancing Custard mixed with some Eco Styler Gel for super, extra hold. I was in Florida and I wanted to make sure my curls stayed intact all day. Here are my twists.

I let them dry over night. This is what they looked like in the morning after I got my makeup done for the wedding. They shrank a lot!

When I took them down,  I added coconut oil  to my hands to unravel each twist to add extra shine. Here is what they looked like before fluffing.

Since we don’t have all of the final pics from the wedding, here are a few cell phone pics of my hair and make up right before I changed into my dress.

Here are a few pics from the reception. John and I were both involved the wedding, hence the attire.

These pics were towards the end of the reception. My hair was already pretty frizzy by then…and the girls were out to play, geez! ( I didn’t pick the dress!!)

Here is my “stop taking pictures of me” face….

All and all,  the twist out came out good, but after about 4 hours it started to go south. Ah well.
