Monisha's Minute: Running With Allergies

Sporty Afros Sneezing

There’s something very different about Spring 2014. Why? Because for the first time since high school I am suffering from allergies! Big Time!

As a runner this is a serious problem. Going outside is a must. Thankfully, I have picked up some tips along the way that have helped me combat spring time allergies.

Cold Compress

I soothe my itchy eyes with a towel that I’ve soaked in cold water. Not only does this gently cleanse my eyes but it also provides a very soothing cool sensation.

Milk Eye Rinse

To prevent bacterial infection and also soothe my eyes, I rinse my eyes out with whole milk. Please note that I am not a medical professional. However, whenever I use milk to rinse out my eyes, the itching stops. I’ve also rinsed my eyes out with milk to clear up a pink eye infection on two occasions. A question people often ask is how to pour it in your eye. The best way I can explain is lean over a sink and pour to where the milk runs from the inside of the eye out. Switch and do the same thing for the other eye.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care has been proven to help individuals who suffer from sever allergies. By bringing the spine back to proper alignment, nerves and the immune system are allowed to function the way they were designed to. After a series of adjustments from Drs. Teandra and Cornell Cornish of CTC Chiropractic, I have been good to go. Granted I get a sneeze here and there, but I don’t wake up with crusty eyes nor do I go into a sneeze frenzy after being outside for 5 minutes.

This is the bulk of my Spring Time Allergy Busting Arsenal. If you are an endurance athlete that suffers from nature related allergies I would love to hear how you fight off itchy eyes and sneeze attacks. I look forward to your posts!

Love, Peace, and Sweat
