For the past three weeks, I have had a blast coaching the Sole Patrol 5K training program in partnership with Concord Church of Dallas, TX.
For those who have followed my story, two years ago I served as a volunteer runner with a homeless women’s ministry. It was during these morning walks and runs that I formed a desire to teach the fundamentals of running. Soon after completing the Dallas 13.1 with one of the ladies from the walking group I sought out to become a certified running coach.
I found out about the RRCA Coaching Certification Program and signed up. Two weeks before I was scheduled to fly out to the RRCA weekend course, I received a Facebook message from a stranger named Kerrie. She informed me that she met my college bestie Alex W. Kerrie stated that she wanted to start running but could not find a group that was at her pace. I told her that I would love to work with her and as a matter of fact I was on my way to Atlanta to become a certified running coach. To make a long story short she ended up asking one of the pastors at her church could they start a running ministry. A year later and Runner’s Revelations (my business) is putting on it’s third 5K training program having served over 150 clients to date. I feel so blessed to be able to start my mornings off by helping others increase their knowledge of running, training, mental, and spiritual well being.
Each training session starts off with a group prayer and a warm up. With help from my assistant coaches we teach and motivate beginner runners on form, pacing, breathing, speed (intermediate class), hydration, and nutrition.
Check out some of the photos from one of our training sessions.
As I reflect on what this program has become in just one year, my heart rejoices. We’re in the middle of Week 4. The class will continue for 4 more weeks, ending with a Graduation 5K. I can’t wait to cheer my runners on! I will most certainly keep you all posted on details about the Graduation 5K. If you need a little motivation or would like to come out to encourage the runners, you’re more than welcome to attend.
Love, Peace, and Sweat,
