Alternative Summer Workouts For Rainy and Hot Days

Last week, we had a massive hail storm in Dallas. I took this photo after the hail subsisted. Luckily, my car was not damaged at all! (PRAISE REPORT).

I was determined to workout, in spite of the thunder storms and went to the gym. Unfortunately, the gym was closing due to renovations and storm damages.

As I made it back home, I began to search for some alternate workout ideas since it was too late to run outside and I was stuck inside my house. I came up with a few frugal ideas for working out at home.

Roku Box

If you are one of the cool kids who own a Roku box, you are in luck. There are tons of fitness workouts and channels available at your fingertips. I enjoy Gaiam‘s Yoga Conditioning For Weight Loss. Gaiam has over 10 specific workout videos to feed your workout appetite on its fitness channel. Click here to learn more about Roku box.

Can’t make it to the gym or don’t have one close to you? Try a Beachbody fitness dvd. Whitney is a fan of the p90x dvd series and can testify to the toughness of it. Its a serious workout. You’ll be huffing, puffing and sweating up a storm! Can’t afford the dvd series? You can purchase the fitness videos segments in itunes for a fraction of the cost.

If you have a Netflix account, there are several exercise dvds in the dvd vault. Try the 10 Minute Solution dvds for those who are pressed for time or just to tired.

Your Phone

There are a variety of great free workout apps on itunes and android market. The Nike Training and Free Daily Workout (leg/abs/arm /butt/ball) workouts are two of my favorite apps to workout with.

Have you noticed the presence of rain increases the amount of people at the gym, especially on the cardio machines? Instead of waiting 10 to 15 minutes for your favorite cardio machine, try going for a swim in the lap pool of your local gym. Check out a few of our workouts and tips at the pool.

Fun Fact – Swimming has close to 60% more resistance than most gym cardio machines.

Turn on the Pandora and dance till you can’t no mo’. Whether you drop it like it hot or two step it out, just keep moving!

Confession: I often play Beyoncé’s “The Beyonce Experience” dvd at my house and dance and sing along to it. I tend to collapse after I complete the Soulja Boy “Crank that” dance.  Ha!

These are a few of my tips and ideas but I am all ears for a few alternatives. Leave me a comment below! 🙂
