I don’t usually wear my hair straight.
If it wasn’t for my fiance, I probably wouldn’t straighten my hair very often at all. BUT, when I went natural I agreed that I would straighten my hair twice a year, Christmas and his bday.
He’s like typical black men that like long, straight, dark hair. *side eye*
This picture is from July 2012.
Here is my hair growth over the years.
I cut and colored my hair about 10 months ago and I love it.
Here is a pic of it a 2 months ago. So this is about 8 months of hair growth.
He asked me to dye it dark for his birthday. I gave him the meanest ‘negro I KNOW you didn’t just ask me that’ look and he promptly dropped the subject.
I used Motion’s Straight Finish products to press my hair.
So far, I’m LOVING the results. Here is what I did step by step.
This is my sweaty post workout hair. I used the Motion’s products to wash and condition my hair. All of the products are infused with Keratin and essential oils to help keep the hair moisturized and strong through the straightening process.
It was late at night after I finished washing and I didn’t want to blow dry my hair so, I french braided it to stretch it while it air dried over night.
This is my hair after I took it down in the morning.
I used my blow drier, Motion’s heat protection serum and the flat iron that came in the kit to straighten my hair.
When blow drying your hair, be sure to use low to medium heat and hold the blow dryer 4- 6 inches from your hair. ALWAYS uses a heat protection product on your hair before blow drying or flat ironing. Separate your hair into small sections to get it as straight as possible before flat ironing. Yes, it takes longer to section it and use a lower heat setting but this keeps your hair from being damaged.
Here it is blow dried.
When flat ironing separate your hair into small sections and take your time….
Make sure your flat iron isn’t too hot. Ideally, your flat iron should be 350 degrees, but if you don’t have a temperature control setting use the common sense test. If it’s smoking or your hair smells burnt after running a flat iron over it stop immediately. This is how girls permanently damage their hair. And yes, you can damage your hair so much that it wont curl anymore and you’ll have to start your curly natural hair journey all over again.
Half way there….
My hair is super angled in the back because of the way I had it shaped when I cut it so when it’s straight it looks a little strange. But I threw some curls in it and it looked fine.
Here is a better pic of my hair I snapped at the office.
I’ll post some pressed hair workout hair care solutions later this week!
* Note: Motions sent me these products for free. All options and reviews are my own.
