How long have you been natural and when did you BC?

Ive been natural on and off through the years but I was officially “reborn” into the natural community when I  BC’d July 4 2010. It had been so long since Ive been completely natural my own mom didn’t recall what my natural hair looked like.

What are your staple products and hairstyles?

Most of them are ones I actually make in the kitchen such as a glycerin based spray and ayurvedic oils. The products I Purchase are: Giovani & Cantu leave in conditioners, Bee Mine deep conditioner, Amazing Botanical Black soap & Malibu shampoo, Afroveda Shea Whip, Oyin hair dew, Taliah Waajid  The Detangler and Aphogee’s keratin product. Oils: I always use Ayurvedic oils, castor oil and coconut oil.  Protein treatment: Homemade: love the Shealoe butter mousse, avocado and egg/mayo conditioners.

Staple hairstyles: Wigs! Perfect for protection. Coily fro-hawk for my wash and go days, and the two strand twist pulled into a loose ponytail

What is your regimen?
Since I work out a lot, my regimen is a series of things. For swimming I use more leave in conditioners and oils, while for a bike ride I might deep condition while cycling. Typically, I wake up and refresh my hair with my homemade glycerin spray, add some oils.

What are your natural hair goals?

My goal is to have a mid length curly fro within 3 years. I want my hair to look like the wig I wear. I am right on schedule

How do you keep your hair intact overnight?

If I am deep conditioning it then I will use bagging method with seran-wrap, condition it and sleep with hoping I wake up in time for my morning run and rinse it out. Typically I just use a satin pillow case and a satin head wrap.

How do you maintain length?

I maintain length by a combination of things. The main component is taking care of my body internally and externally. I can use the right products all I want but if I am not giving myself the right nutrition, taking my vitamins and working out then it’s hard grow and maintain length. I also make sure I moisturize my hair a lot! My hair speaks to me and tells me what it needs.

Name 1 reason you went natural and why you love being natural.

I workout so much and needed to start over completely! I am loving the journey of healthy hair, mind, body and spirit which why I help found sportyafros.com.I think my hair is just an extension of who I am becoming and I hope to inspire others along the way.
