Did y’all hear about this? High school coach Bob Grisham called our FLOTUS fat! His exact words were, “Fat butt Michelle Obama…Look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. She’s overweight.” After I read this I literally couldn’t see straight, I was so mad! The thought of someone calling Michelle Obama fat is absurd.

The latest public rant against Michelle Obama’s effort to promote low-calorie school lunches was recently caught on tape in Alabama — the usual protest against the federal government meddling in local business. And then it quickly found its way around to the first lady’s posterior.
“Fat butt Michelle Obama,” said Bob Grisham, a high school football coach who was surreptitiously recorded by one of his students. “Look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. She’s overweight.”
Grisham, who was suspended Monday, is neither the first nor the most high-profile person to feel moved to comment on the first lady’s physique. Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has repeatedly called her Michelle “My Butt” Obama. And Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner, the Wisconsin Republican, issued an apology after he was caught commenting on her “large posterior.” (Grisham has also said he misspoke.)
We have a history in this country of white people not showing adequate respect for and devaluing the bodies of black women, and this most definitely falls in line with that,” says Ayana Byrd, the co-editor of the anthology “Naked: Black Women Bare All About Their Skin, Hair, Hips, Lips and Other Parts.” (Grisham, Limbaugh and Sensenbrenner are white men.)
Michelle Obama — who is 5-foot-11 and praised for her fashion sense, her bangs and her toned biceps — regularly emerges in polls as one of the most popular public figures in the country. (The White House does not discuss her weight.) She has graced magazine covers from Vogue to Better Homes & Gardens. Women’s health magazines have created workouts to help other women get “Michelle Obama arms.”
The first lady’s critics “are reacting to the culture in which they’ve grown up or they are using it as a code to racialize Michelle Obama and remind people that she’s black,” says Andra Gillespie, an associate professor of political science at Emory University. “It is unreasonable to expect a nearly 50-year-old woman to have the body of a 25-year-old. She looks great for her age.”

The White House declined to comment about the situation. They shouldn’t even dignify his ignorance with a response. We all know that black women are shaped differently than women of other races. We tend to carry our weight in our hips, thighs and yes, our butts, but by no means does the fact that some of us are “pear shaped” make us fat. Men of all cultures have come to love and appreciate black women’s curvealicious bodies. But the fact that Mrs. O’s body doesn’t meet Mr. Grisham’s standard of beauty makes her fat?
And to add insult to injury, he is spewing his ignorance to his high school students. This boggles my mind. Instead of focusing on his negativity let’s focus on something positive. How about the awareness that Mrs. Obama has brought to health and fitness in general. She is a huge advocate for taking care of yourself and eating healthy. I would take it as a sincere compliment to have a body like hers. With that being said, here are a few tips to look fabulously fit like Michelle Obama:
1. Find a regular workout schedule
The key to being fabulously fit is consistency. The FLOTUS opts for morning workouts and I must agree that morning seems to be the best time to get a workout in. You can get it out of the way before your busy schedule starts and you’ll have a little pep in your step all day!
2. Find what motivates you
Motivation will help you stick to your workout schedule after your initial enthusiasm wears off. What motivates you? Your kids? Losing weight? That great post-workout feeling? Find what it is and hold on to it.
3. Set goals
I find it easiest to stick to a workout routine when I have a goal in mind. Personally, I like to train for races. I’ve done 5 triathlons and 2 half marathons and I’m training for a full marathon right now. When I have a goal in mind, it gives purpose to my workouts and I feel guilty if I don’t give each workout session my all.
4. Get the right tools
